South West Transit Association
Safety Management System (SMS) is a comprehensive, collaborative approach that brings management and labor together to build on the transit industry’s existing safety foundation to control risk better, detect and correct safety problems earlier, share and analyze safety data more effectively, and measure safety performance more carefully.
Safety Management Workshop:
SWTA has created a two-day Safety Management Workshop to help medium, small, rural and tribal transit agencies understand the FTA’s SMS requirements and how to plan and implement SMS proactively, across all modes.
Workshop Description:
FTA’s priorities, pillars and policies are the focal point of this new SWTA workshop for transit providers desiring to get ahead of the regulations. Utilizing real transit examples, discussion, hands-on exercises, videos and peer-to-peer learning we will provide the foundation for understanding the Safety Management System (SMS) Approach, developing a system safety plan and creating a safety culture. You can expect real-world guidance as to what this means for a rural or small urban transit system and how to implement the safety goals of the FTA. All participants will receive a TSI Distracted Driver Training certificate upon completion of workshop.
